C.A.R.E. Campaign Launches in Philadelphia

On Monday, September 14, 2009, The Wellness Community launched the C.A.R.E. (Cancer Advocate Resources & Education) Campaign for breast cancer caregivers at the Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia, PA. A new, innovative program, the C.A.R.E. Campaign aims to educate people about the needs of cancer caregivers and provide support.

At the launch, celebrity spokesperson and Desperate Housewives star Ricardo Antonio Chavira shared his experience as a caregiver for his mother and two sisters, who have each been affected by breast cancer. This was the first time that Chavira spoke publicly about his sisters' breast cancer diagnoses. Actor and campaign spokesperson Ricardo Antonio Chavirez with Kim Thiboldeaux, president and CEO of The Wellness Community.Chavira was joined on stage by 3 additional panelists. Kim Thiboldeaux, president and CEO of The Wellness Community, introduced the free resources available to breast cancer caregivers through the C.A.R.E. Campaign, including a new educational publication, Frankly Speaking About Cancer: When A Woman You Care About Has Breast Cancer, the COPEing & CAREing workshop series and the innovative web-based information and online support groups.

Renowned author and family therapist Barry J. Jacobs, PsyD discussed the unmet needs of cancer caregivers and the importance of addressing these needs. Finally, Paul Ricciardi, a participant at The Wellness Community - Greater Lehigh Valley, shared his personal experiences as a caregiver to his mother, an 11 year breast cancer survivor.Panelists at the CARE Campaign launch address a question from the audience.

The Wellness Community is extremely grateful to The Breast Cancer Fund of National Philanthropic Trust for their generosity in funding this much needed program. We are thrilled to launch this campaign in honor and recognition of those who support their loved ones with breast cancer everyday.
